There is, as yet, no firm reference to Jonathan's baptism but it is believed that he married Jane Denton (1102) at Barnsley 26th March 1681 (1,3,6,18). It is also believed that he had a son Jonathan Batty (1005), baptised at Barnsley 20th March 1685 (1,2,5), and a daughter Jane Batty (1004) baptised at Barnsley 10th January 1690 (1,2,5). The first firm connection is the baptism of his son Edward Battey (1001) baptised at Barnsley 21st May 1695/96 (1,2,5). He next had a son, Joseph Battie (1002) baptised at Barnsley 29th November 1701 (1,2,5). The next reference to Jonathan is when his son Edward (Batty) was apprenticed to Thomas Pitt of Wadsley, a cutler, in 1709 (15). Jonathan is referred to in (15) as a Corvisor (shoe/clog maker) from Barnsley. In 1711 Edward was transferred to William Swann of Owlerton, another cutler (15). It is believed that Jonathan is the same Jonathan who was buried at Barnsley 8th April 1714 as a pauper (4,7). In 1716 Joseph (Batty) was apprenticed to George Nightingale of Brightside, a cutler (15). Now Jonathan is referred to as Corvisor deceased.
